About Kansai
Located at 4345 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94609, Kansai operates as a japanese serving Oakland in California. Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Oakland, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Oakland is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Oakland follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

The presentation was beautiful, the portions were generous, and the seafood tasted incredibly fresh. This place deserves so much hype. The flavors were rich but balanced, and everything paired together perfectly. Honestly, this dinner made me so happy.

Came here for happy hour as this is one of the only restaurants open in the area after 10 PM Got the Katsu chicken plate and edamame and it came with a side of miso soup The edamame was fine, but they couldβve steamed it a little bit longer Katsu chicken was a little heavy on the breading and one piece of it was slightly undercooked, but overall decent I pointed this out to the server who came to check in on me. He said since I ate, most of it, he couldnβt get me another order or cancel it from my tab. I said I donβt want him to do either, just would like the kitchen to know. I paid with cash, tipped and left. Next thing I know the server is coming out with a bag chasing after me: the manager was upset that I didnβt have the best experience and sent some edamame for me to take home. It was awfully kind of them to do so, and I did not ask for this. Will come back to try some of their rolls It was a very nice experience overall

Tasty and good portion. Servers are really friendly, checked in on us multiple times. Tiger wood roll is surprisingly spicy (has a good kick in a good way.) Children plate has chicken teriyaki, tempura, gyoza, rice and miso soup for ~$15.

Came for happy hour right after 9pm, it wasn't too busy and we were sat down right away. Server came with our water and we asked for straws and our server looked at us like we just spoke gibberish. When we were ready to order, the server said they couldnt take our order because they were training. But the order was all marked on the happy hour menu. We waited for someone else to take our order and noticed others who came in after had their orders taken before us. When a server finally came to take our order, they informed us one of the happy hour items we wanted, the deep fried hamachi roll, was no longer being offered. Okay, weird because its still on the regular menu, but no big deal. We ordered shrimp tempura, meat gyoza, lion king roll, and Bob roll from the happy hour menu and the Newport roll, which we've had numerous times, from the regular menu. We received our appetizers and it was tasty. However our baked rolls took longer than usual to come, we know to expect baked rolls to take 15-20 mins, but after more than 20 mins we were growing impatient. When the server, the same one who gave us our water, came out with a platter of orders, he passed us to serve a table that c
